RUNNING STREAK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

EmoticonA running streak is what I have started this holiday season.

The idea is to run every day and see how long this unbroken series of daily runs will last. The idea I exapted from  an article in the December 2013 issue of RUNNERS WORLD, specifically in The Newbie Chronicles by Marc Parent.

Here are some interesting observations by Marc on his streak experience:

1. "I no longer get tired on a run."
2. "I found out legs don’t hurt on days off when you never take a day off."
3. "You never feel guilty about the run you don’t take when you take them all."
4. "You don’t have favorite running clothes – you have whatever is clean and whatever works, which is whatever you happen to grab when you reach into the drawer."

Reading thru this laundry list, I got hooked about the idea of starting a streak of daily runs, especially in the holiday season as one gets to consume more food and calories from all the parties and reunion celebrations prevalent in December , thereby resulting in unwanted weight gains. The rule is simple.  Run every day and the distance of the run should be at least 3 kms (in the RW article, it is at least 1 mile).

I started this running streak last December 22 and I might have started late but thus far, the first five days of the streak seemed to have buoyed my passion for running. At the very least, it has given me a target to gun for.

Here are photos from December 23 (Day 2) to December 26 (Day 5):

No picture on Day 1 as I was not yet convinced on that day I would start a streak. I ran 5 kms in 38 mins inside the village on Day 1. On Day 2,  I was on board with the streak.

Day 2:  Tagaytay Highlands (3 kms in 40 mins). This was mostly uphill.

Day 3:  Ayala Triangle ( 5kms in 38 mins).  Gabriela is my favorite.

Day 4:  South Bay Village ( 6 kms in 43 mins).  Heat training as I woke up late on Christmas Day.

Day 5:  South Bay Village ( 5 kms in 33 mins).  The penguin is faster in night running.

How long will the running streak last?

The BP is gunning to extend the streak beyond Happy Three Kings. Indubitably, this streak will bear some gifts.Emoticon
