I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

ATENEO DE NAGA HS BATCH 1983: A New Purpose in Life at 35

Blogger's Note:  This article written by fellow 83nean Noel "Ghibz" Guevara is a sharing of his reflections of the batch reunion we had last Dec. 28, 2018.  The Bicolano Penguin blog has featured Ghibz' writings more than a couple times already and his style is always packed with exuberant bravado. In his latest piece, the bravado may have been toned down but the trademark candid honesty is alive, kicking and taking no prisoners.  Enjoy.

1 USI HALF MARATHON: One In Mission

One of the virtues of running is how painlessly it can be utilized for good. How it can be facilely deployed  as a fund-raising activity by a community for the purpose of helping others. In fact, for many a newbie runner, their first encounter with an organized fun run is one that is being used for a particular cause. Hundreds of races take their name and/or mission from the charities they support.  Google the words "Run for a Cause" and the entries you would see vary from Run for Cancer, Run for the Homeless, Run for Veterans, Run for a Drug-free Society, Run for Peace and hundreds more.  Hundreds of thousands of runners find motivation, inspiration and approval from dedicating their personal race to a greater cause.

1st SFX HALF MARATHON: Community Coming Together for a Parish

For many, the attraction of running in a fun run in the provinces are twofold.  Firstly, the beautiful sights and sounds that nature has blessed our provinces can be experienced up close on foot. Secondly, always uplifting to witness a community coming together for a running event for the benefit of a local cause.

Such is the appeal of the 1st St. Francis Xavier (SFX) Half Marathon scheduled for Sep 30, 2018 in the beautiful town of Abuyog.
