I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

THE 50-KM BDM TEST RUN UP NEXT THIS JANUARY 14, 2012

The Bicolano Penguin is raring to do the 50-km test run for the Bataan Death March (BDM) ultra  this coming Saturday.  Just take a look at the pictures below.

Testing the Energizer...

Headlight

For the 2012 edition of the 102-km BDM ulta, the Bald Runner, in his age-old wisdom,  has scheduled two 50-km test runs, one each this January and February.    Surely, the 2012 BDM ultra aspirants will benefit from these test runs.  The first one for January will be mostly a run under the dark sky as the start is 10 pm at Mariveles, Bataan .  The finish of the test run will be at the Municipality of Abucay in the same province.

Given that this is a night run, the Energizer headlight (courtesy of my CIC) will be most helpful.  No doubt the Energizer AA batteries of the headlight  will prove durable   to last beyond the 8 hours it would take me to finish the 50 kms.

For the first 50-km test run this Saturday,  I will  have the luxury of joining  my eager Ateneo de Naga HS Batch 1983 classmates Ruben “Fards” Fajardo, Ernie Badong  and  Bob Castilla.  This will be the first ultra distance run of Ernie, the 2nd for Fards, 3rd for me and the 9th for our 2011 BDM veteran Bob.    Another 83nean runner, Ed Balcueva, promised to be with our support vehicle.

Wish us luck in this night running adventure.    May all the BDM ultra participants have a safe  run.  And if ever we encounter ghostly phantoms in the night run, may they be the malevolent spirits of the original Bataan Death March heroes.

Carpe diem.  Carpe noctem...................
