Today is our Independence Day. The Philippines declared its Independence in June 12, 1898. Thus, the year 2021 is the 123rd celebration of our cherished Independence.
There are many runs (virtual or otherwise) today that are organized to celebrate the Philippine Independence Day. Of those many, the Bicolano Penguin has chosen to participate in the T8 Independence Day Run. I like the fact that the distance for this virtual event is 12.3 kilometers.
The organizer of the T8 Independence Day Run is RaceYaya. I received a welcome email explaining the mechanics:
Welcome Email. |
Have reached out to RaceYaya's Tin Ferrera to know more about the rationale behind this event. This is what Tin shared:
"Running allows us to feel and celebrate our freedom. It's a great reminder as we move freely of the freedom we have, we raise our own flag by putting one foot in front of the other, albeit individually we gather and see each other's name together in the live leaderboard of Raceyaya and feel the spirit of togetherness-virtually.
T8 supports this. Last year when the founders from HK talked to us about designing the cap in the middle of the pandemic to show their support to the Filipino community. The cap reminds us of our culture, our identity, our flag and it reminds us that all we need to do is Laban Lang! as written in baybayin in the cap."
Noble words from a leader of RaceYaya who certainly knows how to Walk (Run) the Talk. This got me inspired to wake up early in the morning of June 12 to run my 12.3kms.
For the T8 Independence Day Run, the Bicolano Penguin was wearing the Sherpa Shorts, Commandos Underwear and Max O2 Running Mask. All T8 products. All light in their weight. |
My time for the 12.3 kms. As of 2pm (June 12), at the live Leaderboard, the Bicolano Penguin is 7th among the male runners and 11th overall. 7 Eleven, what a coincidence. |
