Indeed, as another year concludes and a new one begins, the mission continues.
And what is that mission? For the Mangrove Loving Penguin (MLP) it is to continue speaking up for nature in general and for the mangroves in particular. Such a mission is based on the Justice for the Vulnerable. There is a passage in the Holy Bible (Proverbs 31: 8-9) that reads "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." It is a strong call to advocacy for the marginalized and oppressed members of human society. By extension, this principle should be applied to the natural world, which cannot speak in human language to defend itself against abuse or neglect.
The MLP chooses to provide a voice for mangroves thru its writing about the benefits of the mangrove ecosytem to human society. It is my sincere belief that the mangrove forest is one of the most important ecosystems of our beloved Philippines in this climate change world given its mitigation and adaptation benefits.
In 2025, the Mangrove Loving Penguin ramped up its writing about mangroves. In total, MLP wrote 10 blog articles about mangrove for the year 2025. These are:
1. Pugad ng Nilad (June 12, 2025)
2. Celebrating Wordl Wetlands Dayy (Feb 4, 2025)
3. Thank God for Kayaks and the Adventure/Learning it Provides (Oct 26, 2025)
4. World Mangrove Day (Aug 3, 205)
5. Tandem Kayak for Caditaan Mangrove Forest (Nov 8, 2025)
6. Mangroves in the Land of Gold (June 21, 2025)
7. Spreading the Gospel of Running and Mangroves (Apr 29, 2025)
8. Training of Trainers on Mangroves and Beach Forest Rehab and Conversation (Feb 5, 2025)
9. Bantigue Mangroves in Burgos (Jul 11, 2025)
10. Mangroves of Mandaue City (Jul 16, 2025)
In addition, the Mangrove Loving Penguin YouTube continued to produce and post videos abou MLP's encounter with the mangrove forests and the people's organizations that are taking care of it.
So, for the coming year 2026, the MLP endeavors to double the number of blog articles it has written about mangroves. It is hoped that writing more about mangroves will help foster greater public appreciation of the mangrove ecosystem. And with greater public appreciation, this will lead to more intiatives on celebrating and nurturing our mangrove forests.
Again, Maligayang Bagong Taon.
