I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

FRONTRUNNER MAGAZINE Vol III Issue 2 2012: Picture of 83neans Inside

With a cover like this, I was excited to get my hands on the latest issue of the frontRUNNER magazine. Camilla Brooks is on the cover and the BDM tattoo on her back told me that the Volume III Issue 2 2012 is  about ultramarathons.

I got to purchase a copy this week at the National Bookstore and the contents were as advertised and then a pleasant surprise.

At pages 60-61 was a picture spread about the Bataan Death March 160km ultra last January 28-29, 2012.  And at the right bottom part of page 61 is the group picture of the 83nean runners with a couple of Fairview runners and the top honchos of A Runner Circle.  For this 160k ultra event, Bobby Castilla ably represented the Ateneo de Naga High School Class of 1983 by placing 14th  out of 53  finishers with a time of 25:40:37 (cut off time is 30 hours).  Ruben “Fards” Fajardo, Ernie Badong, Ed Balcueva and the Bicolano Penguin alternately paced and manned the support vehicle for Bob. Bob’s conquest of the BDM 160 is a source of joy and pride for all 83neans.  Having our picture in the leading  local running magazine is a source of happiness, too.  Not bad at all.  Oragon.........

Thank you, frontRUNNER editor-in-chief Jonel Mendoza, photographers  and staff.

Thank you Ernie for your kind words. Next year, same month of January, I look forward to your picture at the finish line of the BDM 160. Kasama siyempre si Fards. Ipagpatuloy nindo ang pagka-oragon na pinunan ni Bob. hahahaha.......
