The late Secretary Jesse Robredo was an Atenean.
He was a well respected member of Ateneo de Naga High School Class of 1974. He was an active alumnus and had been very helpful to our alma mater, even serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Naga University for many years. More importantly, he lived a simple yet full life that was true to the spirit of being “men for others” in the process showing to the nation that good governance can be done and sustained.

To paraphrase the Second Book of Timothy, “He has fought a good fight. He has completed the race. He has kept the faith.” Truly, a shining example for us Ateneans and all Filipinos to follow.
When the State Funeral for Sec. Robredo reached Malacanang, the call and text from the Ateneo de Naga Alumni Association – Metro Manila Chapter came, encouraging all Manila-based members to visit. Many members of our batch (Ateneo de Naga High School Class of 1983) responded.
Despite the rainy weather, thirteen 83neans came to Malacanang Palace on the night of August 24. They are Ernie Badong, Bob Castilla, Ed Balcueva, Noel Guevara, Jobel Belarmino, Meng Monte, Bogs Abogado, Art Puncia, Boots Concon, Franklin Tria, Pidong delos Santos, Danny Paulino and Alan Velasco. I would have been with them there except that our planning sessions extended up to 10pm. The following noontime of August 25, my son Marcel went also to Malacanang.
The 83neans came to Malacanang to show their respect and thanks for Sec. Jesse Robredo, truly a great man. May the spirit of being “men for others” continue to flow more abundantly...........
