I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

AVON WALK THE TALK AND RUN FOR PASIG RIVER : Engaging Employees Thru Running

A cool and fun way to engage employees is thru sports. And one of the more egalitarian sport activities  out there is running.

In the company I work for, First Balfour, we have been encouraging our people to join fun runs for a couple years already. At the onset ,it was typically hard to get many employees to sign up.  I remember going from one department to another for days to be able to cobble up a handful of willing runners.   But now, with more of our co-workers seeing the benefits of an active healthy lifestyle, recruiting for fun runs is a piece of cake.

Sign up sheet
Take the recent case of our signing up employees for the Run for Pasig River (Sept 20)  and Avon Walk The Talk – Breast Cancer Crusade(October 21) . We posted the sign up sheet on the office bulletin board and in one hour, all 40 slots were filled up.  And many more were emailing me asking to be included in the list.

We are happy to know that many of our co-workers are getting high on running.  They know that they will have runner’s high and helper’s high.  Having a resilient and healthy workforce is a step in many we need to take in our quest to be a company built to last.
