I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

2013 BATAAN DEATH MARCH 160k ULTRA: Ernie’s Turn

"One time lang."

These were the words spoken by 83nean runner Ernie Badong when he decided to join the 2013 Bataan Death March 160k Ultra scheduled for January 26 -27, 2013. He made the fateful decision way back, a year ago, when he paced Bob Castilla in the 2012 BDM 160K Ultra.  After watching Bob crossed the finish line at the Capas Death March shrine, Ernie was so inspired.

Now, we are a couple days away from the start of the 2013 BDM and Ernie will be the sole representative of the running men for others of the Ateneo de Naga HS Batch 1983.  It would have been 2 if not for the injury that plagued Ruben “Fards” Fajardo a month before the BDM.

But Ernie will bravely soldier on and in this quest of his to be the second 83nean to survive the BDM 160, he will be wearing Bib No. 83.  Truly a loyal 83nean.  Never shy to show his true colors.

Bob, Fards and myself will be a tag team come January 25 & 26, as we provide support to Ernie.  Bob will take care of supporting Ernie in the first 102 kms from Mariveles, Bataan to San Fernando, Pampanga. At the Km 102 marker in San Fernando, Bob will turn over to Fards the support duty.  I then join Fards to be a pacer for Ernie.
