As the 3 of us
83neans (Allen, Ernie, and me) entered
the People’s Hall of the Albay Capitol for the Pre-Race Briefing, we were
greeted with familiar and smiling places
from the uber friendly ultra running community.
This is one thing I enjoyed about ultra running - the spirit of camaraderie. From our race director, the indefatigable Bald Runner to steady BDM veterans like Lao Ogerio, Alfred de los Reyes, Randy Rubio, Val Caro and Kharl Ocampo, to Bicol-based road runners like Mariano Basagre, Brando Bueno and Joji Asis, to fellow row 4 ultra runners like Lyra Rosario, Luzel Franco and Arianne Ortega, ultra runners have this affable aura, no doubt honed by the realization that out there on the lonely long distance roads one needs friendly faces.

In addition, I
was able to meet friends for the first time in person. One of them is Gia Estrella who I have been
in communication with via emails for almost a year already. She knew my dad from work and we found a
common interest in running.
With Gia |
Running is truly
a great venue to meet friends. And the
longer the distance, as in ultra running, the more buddies you get to commune
with.
