I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

MERIENDA IN MINALABAC: First Encounter with the Binamban and Anlene Total

Our string of good fortune in Minalabac last May 4 did not end with the adventure run to the white pebble beach of Bagolatao.

As we came down to the town proper, I received a text invite from our Minalabac-based Ateneo de Naga HS Batch 1983 classmate Jose San Jose.  He invited us for merienda.

Enjoying the merienda.  Jose San Jose is standing beside the BP.

This invite we accepted and we were welcomed to the San Jose family residence  in the poblacion of Minalabac.Waiting for us was a sumptuous feast of pancit bihon, toasted siopao and “binamban.” For the latter, it was my first time to experience its delectable taste. It is a rice-based kakanin and its allure to me was its color of purple. Masiramon mga padi.

We enjoyed so much the merienda and we are very thankful for the warm hospitality of Jose, his wife Salve and his family.

And as an added bonus,  our batchmate Jose gifted each of us with a box of Anlene Total powdered milk with Glucosamine and Nano-Calcium. It is the newest product offering of their company Fonterra. Good timing for this pabaon as long distance runners like us need to drink milk to supplement our calcium intake. This Anlene Total  looks top of the line when it comes to milk for “growing” and golden boys.

Truly,   hospitality and generosity abound in  the province.
