I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

LOPEZ LINK October 2014 Issue

Penguins graphicsGot the latest issue of the Lopez Link.  Voila!

On the Wellness section on page 10,  there is the picture of the Bicolano Penguin celebrating a triumphant finish at the Digos City to Davao City  ultra marathon last September.  The 60-km DC2DC ultra was ably organized by Team Kapwa Davao.

This is not the first time that my running experience(s) got to be included in the monthly publication of the Lopez Group of Companies. By my last count, this is the 5th time  and for this I am sincerely grateful to its editor Ms. Rosan Cruz.  She is a smart and strong woman who knows the value of an active exercise lifestyle. Perhaps some day I can be of service  by being of help to her training for a marathon or an ultra.

My appreciation and admiration is also with the Lopez family for valuing “employee welfare and wellness”. They definitely lead by example. Of special mention is the head, Chairman Emeritus Oscar Lopez whose hiking résumé is second to no senior chief executive that I know of:  Mt. Pulag (the tallest mountain in Luzon); Mt. Apo (the tallest mountain in the Philippines); and Mt. Kinabalu (the tallest mountain in Southeast Asia).

Iconic examples like this are part of the  fuel for my full marys and ultra marys. Condura and Camiguin await. Perhaps Negros even.

Spoken like a true “marian” devotee.
