RIZAL DAY 2016: Runnin in the Wind

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you can call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

BAYBAY CITY MARATHON: Last Runner Standing

"Crossing the starting line may be an act of courage, but crossing the finish line is an act of faith."

BAYBAY CITY MARATHON: Q & A with a Passionate Baybayanon

It is more fun to run in the provinces.

This aphorism  is getting to be truer for every long distance event I get to participate in the many provinces our beloved country has. This is indubitable with my Pagudpud experience. Factual from Digos City to Davao City.  Kosher too with my Negros Oriental  century run and Mayon 360 series. Come December 11, the Bicolano Penguin will have again another chance to experience this truism at the Baybay City Marathon (BCM) , in the western part of the province of Leyte.

ALTRA OLYMPUS 2: Go-To Running Shoes for Ultra

Runners pound the road.  They most definitely do.   The shock fatigue that accumulates from absorbing about two and a half times one's own weight with every footfall takes a great toll on the runner. Most especially for runners that tackle long distances like the marathon and ultra marathon.

TN2N: Pioneering Uragons

A couple of hours before the break of dawn of this glorious Labor Day (May 1, 2016), 46 intrepid souls gathered in front of the Sto. Nino Church in the hilly barangay of Tierra Nevada. Many are members of running clubs (Caceres Runners, Isarog Runners, Team SUBO, Runconada, Pepsi-BRO ) and running tribes (row5runnin, 83neans)  while a few are independent freelancers.  They are all about to make history as the 50km race they have signed up for is the first official ultra marathon in the province. Yup, the Tierra Nevada to Naga (TN2N) ultra marathon is the first of its kind in  Camarines Sur, snaking its way from the rugged town of Tinambac in the 4th district of the province to the heart of Bicol - Naga City.

ULTRARUN FOR ROGEL: An Interview with Rogel

Come this Saturday night, more than a hundred runners are expected to troop to Sta. Rosa City for a rare kind of ultra marathon in the Philippines.  For one, it will be an ultra marathon where the venue is not the mountain trails or some provincial road but inside a suburban subdivision where the participants will be running fat-ass crazy around a 2 and a half km loop.  Rare that it is not a solo event but a team event whose members (whether it be 2,  3, 4 or 5) will have to run a total of 80 kms within an 8-hour time period. Rarer still is the fact that this ultra event will be a fund-raising activity in support of a fellow ultra marathoner.

2016 NEW YEAR'S RUNNING RESOLUTIONS: Going Down to 69

Day 1 of the New Year 2016 had me running early in the morning inside a famed cemetery with a fabled runner. The place was foggy and soon it was drizzling.  But this did not stop us. We relish the run and for me, an early morning run is an appetizing venue for some introspective thinking. Many a run like this has produced some great or crazy (or both) ideas for me.
