I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

MORE ON MARVELOUS HARRY

Penguins graphicsTwo days into the  posting of the story on Harry Mediavillo of the Paranaque Running Circle, I have been receiving messages and comments attesting to his  wonderful running exploits.

Even received from an anonymous source several news clippings from Saudi Arabia back in the 1990s.

Now we know that while he is known as "Harrymaw" in Paranaque, he was fondly referred to in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as "Marvelous Harry."  And this marvelous specimen of a man was lording the masters category down there in Jeddah back in the day.  The only way the other master competitors had a chance of beating Harry in a road race was if they make the distance shorter.

Here are the  news clippings:

Thank you to that kind and kindred spirit for sharing these written pieces from a glorious past. It makes for good reading. The past, present and future are looking marvelous.

A Mediavillo by birth, I can't help but feel a surge of pride to read your articles on Marvelous Harry. With his chronicled impressive running exploits, it is a great honor to be his bloodline. I do hope he knows my deceased father Marcelo Lustre Mediavillo Jr., who is fondly called Pong in Daraga, Albay. Reading his overseas work at CDCP, I wonder if my father and he met because he was also in the same company from 1981 to 1983 as a foreman.

Thanks for your write-up, BP. Now, I can tell that my passion in running does run in the Mediavillo blood.

Thank you WJ for the comment. Truly, athleticism and determination flow on your bloodline. Will ask Mang Harry about your father. Perhaps someday, we can run together with Mang Harry. His pace can be reinvigorating to a slow runner like the penguin.
