2014 MAYON 360: Reserved & Registering

EmoticonVisited the Mayon 360 website (http://mayon360.com/) today and saw that the reservation for the solo category is closed already.

Seems the 50-mile run around the circumference of the world’s most perfect coned volcano is attracting a following, both loyal and newbie, among the local  ultra running community with a few foreign-based Filipinos joining the fray. Many are excited about the 2014 edition which happens on April 5. The organizers (Junior Chamber International – Legaspi Chapter and Liga ng mga Barangay – Albay Chapter) are doing a good job.  They even added two relay categories (2-man & 4-man), offering a tasty bite of the Mayon experience to those runners who are not yet gung ho enough to go for the full 80 kms.  It helps too that this race is sanctioned by the Philippine Association of Ultrarunners (PAU).

I looked at the reservation list and saw a handful of running buddies:

1. Eduardo Octavio Balcueva & Ernesto Venancio Badong are fellow 83neans who are my regular training partners at Camp Aguinaldo.

2. Joji Asis, Nino Monte & Kevin Moral are recent participants of our 2nd Bicolano Penguin Anniversary Run:  Lake Bato Ultra. It will be a significant level up for Kevin in terms of distance while Nino and Joji are nearing regional elite-level status in their respective age categories.

3. Maureen M. Gines, an exciting blogger,  had her first taste of this crazy thing called ultra at the T2K last August  and she is now raring to “conquer” (or is it “survive”?) the famous ultra marathon in her home province of Albay.

Of course, my name was on the list, too. At No. 290 (only 300 slots). Have Ernie to thank for the reservation slot.

Reservation done, next step is registration. And of course, need to train for this ultra event. It is hot and humid in Bicol by the time April comes.  But there is no place like home to pursue our passion for running.

See you all on the road huffing and puffing in the LSD runs  as we prepare to do battle in the all-day shadow of Magayon na Mayon.Emoticon

Padi, my suggestion is we start in red and finish in blue. In between, any color will do. hahahaha.........THG logo optional at the back. Only for the thick of hide and brave of heart.
