About Me

I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office and the community, we use running to give back..

DALAGAN PARA MAKATABANG : July 29, 2012 Fun Run in Iriga City

The La Consolacion College Batch 1998 (LCC Batch 98) is organizing a fun run on July 29, 2012 in Iriga City.  The “Dalagan” or “running” part will be 1km/3kms/5kms/10kms in and around the city proper of Iriga. The starting and finish area of the fun run will be at the Rizal Monument, fronting the old city hall.  Looking at the route  sheet, the 10 kms will take runners thru the city proper to the barrios of San Francisco, Sta. Cruz, San Juan , Sto. Domingo, San Roque and back to the Rizal Monument.  It will be a cool way to tour the city.

The “Makatabang” or “helping” part refers to this fun run as a worthy  venture of the LCC Batch 98 to raise money for one of their batchmates who is undergoing dialysis and will be having a kidney transplant. It is inspiring to read about old classmates bonding together for a charitable work close to their hearts.

A month ago, I first heard about this Dalagan Para Makatabang from my US-based classmate and friend, Magen.  Of course, I got interested.  Fun runs in our Iriga City are not a regular monthly occurrence.   Since then, I have been looking at the takbo.ph website for some info on this fun run and where to register.  The whole of June and early July, there was no info in takbo.ph (until this week). Luckily, when I was in Iriga this last weekend (July 14-15), I saw already some banners of this fun run informing me that the registration sites are in the school (La Consolacion College) campus and in Mickey’s, a local gym.  Immediately, I went to the local gym and had me registered in the 10kms.

The registration area in Mickeys was manned by a member of LCC Batch 98.  His family name is Tijam (my apologies, I am not very good in remembering nicknames. Matanda na talaga) and he was helpful.  He  shared  the reason they were doing this fun run.  He also mentioned that he got to join the LaConnect  fun run back in December 2008.  I told him I was part of LCA 8379, the grade school and high school batch of La Consolacion that organized the 2008 fun run.  This brought   more smiles from him and we had our pictures taken together.

I am not very sure if I will be able to run the Dalagan Para Makatabang.  It would depend where I would be on the weekend of July 28-29.  If I am in Iriga, I will run the Dalagan.  But if I am in Manila, I will run the Milo Marathon – Manila Elimination leg.

Nonetheless, I am happy to have registered for the Dalagan Para Makatabang.  I am happy knowing that, in a small way. I helped fellow La Consolacion alumni be of help to one of their classmates.I am sure many Iriga runners are in a helpful mood, too.

For those interested to join, here are some details:

P200 for the kiddie run
P250 for 3km,
P300 for 5km
P350 for 10km
It will include the race bib and singlet and a chance for them to win in the raffle draw.
