I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

TBR DREAM TEAM RUN 2012: A Festival of Colors and Dreams

The inaugural TBR  Dream Team  Run (21 kms) happened November 17, several  weeks after halloween but the public may be forgiven if the impression would have been it was still trick or treat season.

In the early Saturday morning hours, all those present at the Start/Finish area were treated to the amazing sight of many runners in costume.

Colorful costumes were donned by the Dream Team runners ranging from royalty, diva, horror, animal kingdom, anime, Marvel and Filipiniana. It was as if the runners decided to be bullish about  the dream part of the Jaymie Pizarro running creation. I attach a sample size of the photos of these dreamers but you can visit the running photographers' facebook (http://www.facebook.com/runningphotographers) for more pictures.

Our company, First Balfour, has 4 employees who are alumni of The Bull Runner Dream Marathon. For this reunion of TBR dreamers, FB was represented by two marathon dream teams. 2012 alumni Icar Hombrebueno and Rose Dalawampu together with 2013 member Delsie Giray comprised Team A. Iya Pe, a future TBR dreamer (pencilling for 2014) and Chito Ruiz, a guest runner who is the brother of Rose, joined the Bicolano Penguin (2010 alumnus) in Team B. The TBR Dream Team Run is the first half marathon of both Delsie and Iya.

The 2 FB teams were not in costume but we had the name of our company printed in our Puma running shirts. For us, it was an opportunity to show to the public that First Balfour employees are passionate about running, stemming from one of the Lopez values  –  employee welfare and wellness.

And the November 17 event showed that we have 2 young ones who are as passionate as their older officemates. Delsie proved to be strong-willed in keeping pace with Rose and Icar in the whole 21-km route. Iya is a revelation. Prior to the TBR Dream Team Run, the longest she ran was a 10-km. But out there in Nuvali, she showed a thing or 2 to me and Igit, especially at the last 200 meters where she sprinted and left us 2 male runners gasping to keep up. But it was all fun for me to chase her. Truth be told, it was the best finishing kick my 46-year-old body has experienced in a long long long time. Thank you, Iya, for sharing youthful exuberance to the team. It must have been the thought of Krispy Kreme doughnuts running out that prompted the sudden burst of speed.

My sweet experience in the TBR Dream Team Run continued beyond the finish line.  I had a good time shopping for some new running stuff as the finish area had a handful of booths selling stuff.  Hands down, the most popular was the Spibelt booth and the photo below is Exhibit A.

Another highlight at the finish area was a chance to say hello and shake the hand of the Bull Runner, herself, who continues to be an inspiring model for me in sharing the love of running to others.

Congratulations and thank you very much, Jaymie and your team, for  a priceless  fun reunion.

The dream lives on.

Maraming salamat Monkey Saladeer. Sana gumaling ng mabilis ang iyong injury. Your commitment to your running buddies is admirable. Even with your injury, you were still at Nuvali to take great photos of the runners.

The team hasn't been complete for a while, so I didn't want to miss it :) Thanks din, I really hope I get better soon. Until then, I'll be at the sidelines when I can, and taking photos. hehe.
