I was invited to the Bloggers’ Launch of the RU2 last April 14 and here are some thoughts:

1.Listening to Coach Rio passionately talk about the race and the features they have included, the overall theme of the Run United Trilogy is about encouraging the runners to level up their running experiences. That is why the organizers  have removed already the 5km, which was present at the RU1 last March  17, 2013  from the race categories of RU2. The organizers are encouraging the local runners not to be just contented with 5 kms and instead go for 10 kms.  And for those who have finished the half marathon, RU2 offers the rare 32-km race category which is a practical bridge to levelling up for the full marathon (42 kms) come the Run United Philippine Marathon scheduled for October 6, 2013.

2.Coach Rio runs what he talks about (like "Walk the Talk").  Cognizant of the need for some coaching guidance by local runners who want to level up, Coach Rio informed us present at the Bloggers’ Launch that he has scheduled free running clinics on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the ULTRA and Bonifacio High Street.

3.The running singlets for all the distances and finisher shirts for the 21-km and 32-km race seemed to be improvements from the past year.

4.Even the way the race routes were designed shows a desire to level up in the sense that, as Coach Rio explains it, the organizers were mindful of not being able to affect severely the vehicular traffic flow in the area. It remains to be seen whether this will actually be achieved but the RU2 organizers should be given credit for the proactive approach they take.

Overall, the RU2 appeals to the individuals who are looking to improve.  And looking at how much more are lining up to register and join tells us that many of us   have indeed have this desire "to be more than who we were yesterday."
