I am a Bicolano by birth and choice. By any standards, I am a slow runner but I like it that way. I look at running as a healthy and exciting way to make a difference. Together with my fellow runners from our family, school, office, and the community, we use running to give back.

MANNA FROM SINGAPORE: High5 & Acti-Tape

Penguins graphicsLast week, I received an  LBC package containing a box of High5 energy gels and a small box of Acti-Tape kinsesiology tape.

It was manna from Singapore. Yup. Not from heaven but from Singapore and it came from the closest thing to an angel I have in my blogging world.

My blog editor, Mau Gines aka Wandering Jouster, journeyed to Singapore last December to fulfill a four-year old dream - that is to join and finish the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCMS). This  she did successfully and on the side, found time to tour and shop in arguably the most cosmopolitan Southeast Asian city.   For the Bicolano Penguin, the WJ bought practical items an ultra runner needs.

The High5 is my favorite among the energy gels out there in the market. Why?  It is not thick and overly sweet. They taste good and slip down easily. Easy to open and swallow. It is  easier to consume compared to the more popular GU or Hammer gels.  Problem is that the High5 are not readily available in our local running stores. I often have to order it from Singapore. Thus, it is manna to have received it from the WJ who purchased a box with 24 sachets. A bonus is the fact that the box contained sachets of fruity flavors (i.e. Citrus, Summer Fruits and Raspberry)  I have not tried yet.

The other item in the package was an Acti-Tape box. It is good for alleviating pain among runners by facilitating lymphatic drainage  by "lifting" the skin to allow "easier" body fluid flow under the applicable area. This is a tape an old man like me will find very useful.

While the Acti-Tape will be deployed  by the penguin in the upcoming Condura Marathon next month, a couple of High5 energy gels  immediately got consumed in my volunteer job as parish marshalls in the arrival and departure activities of Pope Francis in Jan 15 and Jan 19. The gels were an excellent source of energy for someone waiting along the road for many hours.

A pair of High5 energy gels easily fits into the side pockets of my cargo pants.

Truly, the High5 energy gels and Acti-Tape are proving to be manna for the BP.  That is they are something of value received from a giver whose friendship I value very much.

Maraming maraming maraming salamat WJ.

Congratulations on your gutsy SCMS conquest.

Yup. Thank you very much WJ. The High5 energy gels are my favorite. The Acti-Tape is new to me but I am sure it will do the job. Feel more like a carpenter than a planner. hahaha
