Our high school running buddy, Ernie Badong, chalked up an impressive performance at the 2014 edition of the
Bataan Death March 102km Ultra held last March 2.
He placed 99th out of 253
finishers (http://baldrunner.com/2014/03/03/official-result-2014-bataan-death-march-102k-ultra-marathon-race/). More importantly, Ernie’s finish time of 15 hours & 37 mins is almost 2 hours better than his previous time which was in the 2012 BDM.
Asked as to what he attributes
his remarkable improvement, Ernie rattles off two factors: “Whole day training
and Hoka make a big difference.”
Starting January, Ernie trained
with fellow 83nean Bob Castilla and the two had weekly bouts of day-long training
runs to Antipolo from their Quezon City residences. On the matter of the Hoka, Ernie has this
story to tell: “One runner asked me during the BDM if my shoes are Hoka, I said
yes. He told me, ok yan para kang naka yapak sa s _ _ _ ng babae pag tumakbo.”
Selfless and bighearted to a
fault, Ernie added: “Cyempre sir kasama
kayo lahat. Kayo ang may kagagawan
nito. Kay Fards, Ed, Bob and sa lahat ng
83neans. Salamat. At di ko rin
nakalimutan to pray and bring my rosary with me during the run.”
Congratulations to Ernie and all
the finishers of the BDM 102. Kudos also
to the Race Director, Bald Runner, and his staff for a good job managing the
history-rich ultra event.
Superior!

Thank you BP! Sayang we weren't able to run together. Before the run, I was thinking I will never be a goat out of 250 plus runners Hahahaha! Our weekly training runs at Camp A and long runs with Bob helped a lot which made me feel strong and ready. It was tough and hard.Sobrang init! Luckily I finished safe and sound. Thank you Lord! Thank you Fards, Bob and Ed for the support. Thank you 83neans, my family and friends for the prayers and well wishers. Thank you BP! Ikaw ang may kagagawan ng lahat ng ito! Its your turn next year at the 7th Edition Hehehe Superior!
An inspiring example indeed Mr. Badong.
